Short stories Contest “A Sea of Words"

The 9th edition of the literary competition “A Sea of Words” has just been launched by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed – ALF Head of Network institution in Spain) with the objective of contributing to the promotion of dialogue between peoples and the exchange of knowledge and experiences between different local and international traditions. 

In the framework of "Combating all forms of Violence against Women " as part of the European Parliament's proposal, the literary competition seeks short stories, real or fictional,that address different experiences and views on the various types of gender violence and discrimination within our diverse societies, in order to question established patterns and promote new ways of approaching quality.

Participation requisites

The competition is targeting young people between 18 and 30 years, citizens of one of the 44 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area.

Format of the works

The stories cannot exceed the length of 2,500 words maximum and can be written in any of the official languages of the participating countries. They must be original and wholly unpublished works. Original stories may be submitted individually or collectively.


Deadline and address for submission of stories

All stories must be sent by email to before the 2nd June 2016.


The authors must include their personal details within the stories submitted (complete name, nationality, address, date of birth, telephone number and e-mail).
